I spent the last Friday’s lunch break loitering at the MBS bookstore looking for Creative Enterprise's novels, with Rose, my best bud when I was approached by a middle aged lady. She was asking questions after she saw me intensely browsing the novels on the shelves.
She asked what kinda books do i like most, who’s my favourite author, how do i find time to read and she even asked if i’m a teacher (she’s not the first person who thought that I’m an educator). I was looking for Matt Romeo old novels ‘Kerana mu Ainon’ and ‘Kandang Cinta Kita’ or ‘Joget Cinta Pertama’. These three are not in my possession. I found 'Anak Dara Menteri' though and I bought it for a friend who has the interest of reading but no time for finding it (aren’t we all?).
Back to that makcik; I wasn’t so sure why I let myself talking to her, and I told her i was looking for one particular malay author of Creative Enterprise and that made her wonder what made me fancy Matt Romeo. I produced some name namely Ahadiat Akashah. Told her Ahadiat’s writings never tickle my fancy. He may have written many novels compared to Matt but his are not of good quality of Matt’s (I was being honest). Yes, Ahadiat wrote lotta novels but, I don’t know, I don’t find his novels amusing at all. She asked if either of us reads English. Rose told her I do and she started to tell that her husband is in a final stage of writing a book. The Traders Fabulous Mission written by Humur Endurath. For a middle aged lady I found talking to her is engaging not that I was trying to be polite or anything.
Not long after I told her my thought of Ahadiat’s, an old man, I could guess he is at his early 70, approached us and she presented us Humur Endurath and also with great discomfiture to me, she introduced that very old man is the father of Ahadiat Akashah!!!!! I swear to God that I have never felt like I have not enuff feet to run and somehow that moment the gravity is sucking me and i couldn’t even breathe.
The rest I need not tell I guess you guys could figure how hard it was for me to escape.
Malu gila!!

mila, sah you sebenarnya lebih jiwang drp i... i work for a publisher that produce malay novels and other sort of english reading material... but the truth is... i hardly read any of those novels walaupun i dpt for free. so i just beri pada my friends saja. i can't stand all those jiwang and unrealistic dialog dlm those books. so i prefer english thriller or crime books.
ReplyDeletenote: if i ni akashah, i will be glad that ada org criticize i takkan nk xpect others always agree dan puji. i never read his books like u ckp... nothing special in his writing :)
I dont read malay novels except Matt Romeo's. His is not as cheesy as you thought novels would be like. His write ups were friggin funny. Read one and you'll know what I mean. The choice of words, the metaphors, the story line. All those he put it in a very natural way. One could die laughing.
ReplyDeleteIts either Matt Romeo or english novels for me :)
